Children are given back their childhood

Children and young adults make a complete break from the streets when they join a hostel. Here, they have to leave behind any drugs and destructive relationships from the streets.

It is tough to learn to stay under a roof again and to leave behind street ways and street friends. 24/7 intensive care is needed and the staff here do an incredible job as they support the children who often release a lot of anger and pain at this stage.

It is often during this time that the children really start to open up and share their stories. They are given psychological as well as spiritual and emotional support as they deal with past memories.

After three Months rehabilitation, the children are ready to join a home. Very often the children are almost unrecognizable. Having joined a hostel from the streets, malnourished and suffering with various skin complaints and other illnesses, they are well fed and also well nourished emotionally and spiritually.

The despair of wondering whether they will survive another night on the streets is replaced with dreams for the future.

Refuge

Crises can happen at any time. A parent can fall ill and in hospital, leave the children unattended and prey to those who would hurt them. A teenager leaving a street gang's life can be threatened. A child might need short term crisis care because of an abusive relative.

We are grateful for a refuge and protection house for children and families who are in crisis situations.  The time spent in the refuge allows them to receive support and guidance for the future.

We presently provide limited volunteer support and donations to homeless shelters and orphanages.

The most basic necessities of life being food, clothing and shelter must be attended to for children and the homeless.

What We Provide

We try to connect those in need with government and charitable organizations to care for those in need.

When government and charitable organizations fail to care for the needy, then we take a more active role.  Sometimes this means taking the homeless into our homes. Sometimes it means feeding the hungry on the streets.  Sometimes it means providing clothing to those who have none.  In easier cases, it means helping people find jobs to support themselves and become self-sufficient and contributing members of society.

[ Answer? ]

The number of homeless children, usually children who fled poorly maintained orphanages or poor domestic conditions, remained high. Estimates of the number of homeless children varied widely. The vice premier for humanitarian and social affairs told the press in April 2005 that there were approximately 150 thousand homeless children in the country, but the State Service for Minors reported on July 2005 that there were only 30 thousand. In June the respected independent national newspaper Ukraina Moloda quoted experts as putting the number at 129 thousand.
